Description:
Read the information in your manual or on the product web site to
find out if you have an onboard ethernet solution. Network
connectivity can be available through an onboard ethernet
controller or an ethernet/NIC card. If you have a separate
ethernet/NIC/network card, you need to obtain the drivers from the
manufacturer of the card - even if the chip on the card is
manufactured by VIA.
The VT8231 and VT8233 southbridges, may be supplied with an
integrated ethernet solution. To be sure, check the motherboard
manual or the specifications of the mainboard on the manufacturer's
web site. Other mainboards might have what is often referred to as
a companion chip. That is an ethernet chip which is separate to the
South Bridge.
For Windows
9X/2K/ME/NT/XP/XP64/WinServ64/Unixware/FreeBSD/Linux/Lan Server
DOS/LANTASTIC. Please refer to the Readme file in this package for
further details. This driver supports linux kernel versions 2.2.x,
2.4.x and 2.6.x.
Do use the latest driver version available, it will help you use
the facilities of your hardware easier and better. An old version
can create hardware conflicts and errors in function. Try to stay
updated with your drivers monthly or sometimes weekly. Chose wisely
the specific drivers: motherboards driver, bios, graphic cards
drivers, modem drivers and so on. Chose the right driver for your
hardware and try to make backups of your system every time you want
to make a change.
