uBee512

Details

uBee512 software is an emulator for the Microbee Z80 microcomputer. The emulation includes full Premium or standard model graphics and sound, and has Z80 PIO emulation (with interrupts) that provides tape, serial to PC RS232 serial port and printer peripherals emulation support. Keyboard emulation is fully supported. The program is currently console driven. The Microbee display may be viewed in a window or full screen.
The program is command line driven and provides various options. A GUI interface is to be introduced in the future. The current development has concentrated on emulation before tackling graphical user interfaces.
Please note that all the development work has been carried out without any real Microbee hardware for direct comparisons.
Here are some key features of "uBee512":
· Full Premium (Alpha+) model graphics support. 32K PCG, 8K Screen, 8K Colour and 8K Attribute RAM.
· Premium (Alpha+) emulation of the hardware inverse and flashing video defined in attribute RAM.
· 64/128/256/512K DRAM emulation.
· Speaker sound emulation.
· PIO with interrupts emulated.
· RS232 Serial communications for TX/RX.
· Printer output to file(s) options.
· Tape in and Tape out from/to wave files.
· Fully mapped keyboard, emulates all keys correctly and key repeating works at correct speed.
· All 6545 cursor modes supported.
· Screen is resized to suit the current 6545 registers.
· Various disk images supported and has read/write capability for drives A-D.
· Speed execution accuracy and regulation is excellent and very fast in turbo mode and even faster if specifying the XTAL frequency to a high value.
· Default speed of emulation is 3.375 MHz but the target frequency can also be specified as a command line option.
· CRTC for the VBLANK status is much improved, important for key repeat speed and many games.
· Optional colour and monochrome monitor types: colour, green, amber, white and black.
· Standard Microbee emulation option for backwards compatibility. (i.e. No Premium graphics)
· Full screen mode.
· Emulator 'hacking' options.
What's New in This Release:
· Half intensity monochrome was added for alpha+ models.
· Built-in debugging for Z80 code was added with trace, stepping, and break points.
· Module I/O reporting, peripheral register dumping, and Z80 memory dumping were added.
· Support was added for floppy disk access for Unix builds.
· The Z80 ports emulation has been improved.
· Major fixes were made in the DRAM banking and VDU code to correct 256TC and other problems.
· A z80context initialization problem was fixed, and faster start up may now be noticeable.
· A ROM Basic 5.22e color problem was fixed.
· The --pcg option now works correctly when PCG is less than 32K.
· Many other changes and fixes were made.
