Drumatix 606 is a freeware Roland TR series drum machine
simulator that has 16 steps and original samples of a real 606 and
909.
Honestly now, drum machines are expensive. That's just the
hardware ones. The software ones? Yeah, they're expensive too. As
far as freeware drum machines go, there's lots for Windows, but
about one for Mac OS X.
The Roland TR606 was a drum machine built back in 1982 for
bands without drummers. None of these bands liked them, so they
sold them to DJ's and technocats for £20 each. This started
the whole house scene, and made electronic music what it is
today.
The Roland TR606 is still used in lots of places, but the fact
is that those places never want to sell them to you for a
reasonable price! What about software drummers? Get your wallet,
and if it doesn't weigh over 200 grams, forget it.
Drumatix 606 aims to recreate the sound of the Roland TR series
drum machines for free, with a simple interface that a baby could
navigate through. It's a step sequencer, like the original Roland
beatboxes. It sounds like one, almost looks like one and works like
one, so to the listener of the track, it is one!
