Description:
GedStar is the most efficient way for you to take your important
genealogy information with you on your PalmOS handheld. It quickly
converts your genealogy data and downloads it to your handheld,
where you can view it in several useful ways.
GedStar uses GEDCOM 5.5 files as input. These files can be
exported by any popular PC genealogy program, so whatever you are
using is compatible with GedStar. On your handheld, you can locate
people by name, by Soundex code, or by other database keys. Source
information is also available.
Displays include a List view of all individuals, Family Group
Sheet view, individual Details view, 3-generation Pedigree view,
and an outline Descendants view. There is also the capability to
export your data to a standard Memo Pad record, which you can then
use for taking additional notes. Other important features include
support for multiple databases, no truncation of text strings, and
the capacity for literally 10's of thousands of individuals in a
database. The database is very efficient, generally averaging only
about 100 bytes per individual.
GedStar does not support data input, but with the memo-export
feature you can take notes for later entry on your PC.
V5.2 support the hi-res 320x480 screen size on the new Tungsten
T3, Sony Clie, and Garmin iQue. Also fixes jog-dial operation on
late-model Clie devices.
V5.1.3 fixes a problem with the lookup-field on new devices with
the Graffiti-2 writing system.
V5.0 adds a quick-pick selection list, a relationship
calculator, Tungsten-T 5-way nav support, and Sony Jog Dial
support.
V4.3 added notes for major events such as births, deaths, etc.
Bookmark up to 8 people per database for quick go-to. Unique "on
this day" feature shows events that occurred on a given day.
V4.2 added expanded source and citation detail text support,
plus a quick lookup field on the main list view.
V4.1 added support for storing databases on removable memory
cards such as an SD card on a Palm M500 or M505.
GedStar 5.0 is a free upgrade to all registered users of any
earlier version of GedStar or GedPalm.
