These are the original airings, and the source sound quality does
match the technology in use at the time. However, this actually
works in favor to the mobile user, since quite a low bitrate can be
used, saving space on the device. The files were processed via a
two-pass process in order to obtain a decent audio quality while
making a file size that is very manageable on today's range of
devices. The final format is WMA for simple compatibility with the
built-in media player. Each episode runs about 21 minutes, yet each
episode only occupies around 3 meg of space.
In order to verify that the quality is acceptable it is suggested
that a trial version is downloaded, which is in actuality an
episode in its entirety.
The X Minus One radio series brings much enjoyment and escape to
the listener. The writing on these shows really bring out the best
in imagination at a time that the world beyond the everyday was
just being explored.
