V was created as a combination File Viewer, Directory Browser, File
Finder and File UnZipper for Windows.
V is an invaluable utility for anyone who spends much time
navigating directories and viewing files. For those who prefer to
work in DOS Boxes, V is fast and convenient - just type V Filename
and the file is right in front of you.
Although V might look like a Windows Explorer replacement, its
main strength is its file viewing capabilities. It excels at
viewing files quickly - whether the files are 100 bytes or 100
gigabytes.
Includes search/GREP functionality, hex viewing, support for
4DOS descriptions and EBCDIC files (including common RECFM
formats). File unzipper supports ZIP, CAB, TAR, RAR and GZip
formats.
Here are some key features of "V":
· Handles large files with ease - and large really
does mean LARGE!
· An easy to use interface which takes full advantage of
keyboard shortcuts and right-click menus
· View/extract/install contents of ZIP, CAB, TAR, RAR
and GZip files.
· Files may be fixed at a column position so anything to
the left of the column will not scroll
· Favorite files and directories may be bookmarked for
easier retrieval
· V can be extended through use of User Commands
· Wrap long lines to the screen or to a fixed length
· Handles all combinations of End-Of-Line characters. In
particular, Unix format.
· Columns of text may be copied to the clipboard
· Selections may be appended to the clipboard
· EBCDIC support
· Extensive command line support
· V's hex mode is great for looking at binary files
· Search for binary data as well as text strings
· Extracting small sections from a large binary file is
a breeze
· V will automatically recognize most EBCDIC files and
will display them accordingly. The most common RECFM formats are
supported (RECFM=V/VB/F), as is carriage control.
· Files may be displayed together with a ruler and line
numbers. The ruler may be dragged to any position of the file,
making it easy to determine the exact position of the data.
· View/print the contents of ZIP, CAB, TAR, RAR and GZip
archives without having to extract the files first.
· Extract ZIP file contents just like any ZIP file
manager.
· Install ZIP files which include a setup program (like
most shareware) without extracting
· You may search for files based on several criteria
(name, size, date/time and attributes) as well as search for files
containing specified text (GREP).
