Streamripper is the popular, highly-awarded tool that records shoutcast-compatible streams. For shoutcast style streams it also finds the "meta data" or track separation data, and uses that as a marker for where the tracks should be separated.
Streamripper records shoutcast and icecast compatible streams, in their native format. The following formats are supported: mp3, nsv, aac, and ogg.
The meta data within the stream are interpreted to determine the beginning and the end of each song, and stores the songs on your hard disk as individual files.
In addition, Streamripper includes a relay server so that you may listen to the station while you are recording.
Streamripper works as a Winamp 2 and 5 plug-in.
There are quite a few tools out there on the market that are intended to do the same job, but as flawless and as reliable as Streamripper, there's no other. The saying that "the best things in life are free" prooves to be true once again. Streamripper is also freeware.
