ExtraClipboard is an extension to the standard Windows clipboard that will allow you to place more than one piece of data on the clipboard at a time.
The clipboard items are shown in a list from which you can select an entry to be pasted into the document.
Windows clipboard is a simple yet powerful interface to transfer the data between applications or within an application. You can place any kind of data on clipboard: plain or formatted text, image, sound, drawing, etc., and with an appropriate application you can paste data into your document.
The clipboard has however a serious deficiency: you can place only one piece of information on it at a time. For example, if you copy a selection of text and then copy an image or another selection of text, the first data is lost: it is overwritten during the second copy. There is no way to paste the first selection into your document if it is once overwritten with another piece of data.
ExtraClipboard attempts to break this limitation by providing as many clipboards as you need without restricting in any way the functionality of the original clipboard - it works just as if you had multiple clipboards.
ExtraClipboard does neither replace nor modify the behavior of Windows clipboard, it just adds another functionality: the ability to reach more than one piece of information through clipboard at a time.
Because the behavior of Windows clipboard is not altered, you still cannot place more than one piece of data on it. ExtraClipboard however watches clipboard and stores all data placed on it in files in a user-specified folder. Though always the currently copied information is read from clipboard when you paste data into your document, you can now select a clipboard-item from a list to place on clipboard and then you can paste it as usual. These items were previously copied to clipboard and all but the last one are already discarded but with ExtraClipboard you are now able to restore them at any time.
When you double-click on a clipboard-item in the list, ExtraClipboard reads the contents of the corresponding file and places data on clipboard that can now be pasted.
