VirtualDVR helps you use the PC as a VideoRecorder.
With VirtualDVR you will be able to use a normal PC as a video recorder replacement. This means you simply “program” a job, press a standby button and some time later you will find a complete recording on your hard drive.
A special feature of the VirtualDVR is its ability to turn the computer on when it’s needed and to turn it off after recording. Therefore the computer must not run all the time.
Beside this VirtualDVR can automatically record telecasts which meet your specific criteria. Furthermore jobs can easily be programmed by using an electronic tv-guide (EPG). So you simply have to select what you want to record and VirtualDVR will do the rest.
The program can be seen as a a kind of "meta video recorder", that means it does not do the actual recording but controls and "manages" other software (like the well known VirtualDub ) to do it. The main advantages of VirtualDVR are its enormous flexibility and the basic idea that the computer does not need to run around the clock but turns on itself automatically to execute jobs. The program has been designed to work as autonomous as possible - so there should be no unnecessary-press-ok-to-continue-messages blocking the whole system. It is assumed that the user has a certain basic understanding of the use of video soft - and hardware.
With VirtualDVR 4.00 the scriptsystem has significantly been improved and nevertheless also simplyfied. In contrast to other applications the ease of use here was a main objective. With the new Scripteditor and the improved help system also less experienced users are able to create scripts. A VirtualDVR script in most cases just starts a an application, sends some key strokes and/or mouse actions to it to start the capturing and waits for the end of the job.
Every job of VirtualDVR (except EPG updates) requires a script which the program tells what exactly to do during its execution. To make the creation of such scripts as easy and compfortable as possible a new script editor has been implemented. It allows to collect the wanted actions simply by "drag'n'drop".
The script editor consists of the areas commands , applications , options , properties and channels , each responsible for a special aspect of the script.
