Text Hide is a small, simple freeware tool that allows you to hide text within a bitmap picture.
If you want to send to someone an encrypted message, but sometimes cryptography isn't enough, for example it might be illegal to use cryptography in some countries and you could get arrested if you are caught using cryptography. So, you need to disguise your message so that it isn't obvious to any eavesdropper that there is even a message at all.
Hiding the message in this way is known as Steganography.
One way to do this is to hide your message inside a picture or sound a file. This may sound extremely complicated but once you know how it works it is actually quite a simple technique.
The technique used in this program is to hide the message inside the least significant bits of each pixel within a bitmap. As a bitmap is basically a grid of pixels where each X, Y co-ordinate holds the colour value of that pixel. It is possible to make a tiny change to the value of a pixel that will go unnoticed by the human eye.
