This simple yet efficient tool is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system.
McAfee Avert Stinger comes with next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.
This program is very easy to use – just select the directories to scan or let it scan the whole computer and press the “Scan Now” button. McAfee Avert Stinger version 10.0.0.441 build on August, the 11th, 2008, was able to scan for 228 specific viruses, trojans and variants.
Pressing the “List Viruses” button from the McAfee Avert Stinger’s main interface will let you view a list of the viruses this tool may find and remove. This virus list does not contain the results from running a scan, but the list of the viruses that stinger is configured to detect.
In the “Preferences” window you may choose between scanning the processes, the boot sectors or both. You may also choose what action should the program perform on virus detection: report only, repair, rename or delete. Various other detection settings are also available.
