Google Reader Offers Automatic Translation Of News Feeds Content
Google Reader is a web based feed reader that offers users the possibility to access constantly updated news from a single place directly in a web browser. Among multiple existing features, like the feeds searching mechanism and various sharing options, recently the automatic translation of news feeds content facility was implemented into Google Reader.
The automatic news feeds translation in Google Reader is based on Google Translate service, that offers the possibility to content publishers to display web pages in different languages based on a machine translation process. The translation accuracy is conditioned by the words meaning that depends on the context where they are used.
In order to display a feed content automatically in a certain language, first the user must select the desired Google Reader default graphical user interface language from the Settings-Preferences-Language menu.
After the user adds a subscription to a news feed that is provided in a different language than the Google Reader interface default one, from the Feed Settings drop-down menu, the Translate Into My Language option must be selected, and the content of the feed will be automatically translated. For example, the next screenshot shows a Downloadtube.com blog feed article automatically translated from English to French:
The integration of Google Translate into other Google Services, like Google Talk and YouTube, as well as into many existing websites through the API or gadgets will increase the degree of accessibility to the information provided by a certain content and in the same time will improve the user browsing experience. More information regarding Google Reader can be read at the official Google Reader blog.
