A Free and Lightweight Alternative For Windows Explorer: Q-Dir
Windows operating system built in file manager – Windows Explorer could not offer sometimes enough functionality for certain user needs. As an alternative, there are many free to download and use applications offering supplementary file management capabilities as compared with Windows Explorer.
Q-Dir is a Windows compatible software that provides quick access to files and folders, multiple customizable panes views through Quadro-View technique, drag-and-drop functionality, access to frequently used folders through quick links and more.
The intuitive interface allows users to rapidly perform various tasks by offering simple menus and a reduced number of buttons, optimally correlated with all application functions. There are available two interfaces, English and German, which can be switched without restarting or reinstalling the application.
Every pane from the main window can be configured to look like a Windows Explorer window. The distribution of the panes across the main application window is easy to modify only with the touch of a button. The Favorites entry from the main menu helps users to save the view of a certain panes distribution.
After the downloading and running of the Q-Dir installation file, the user has the option to perform the setup on a local computer or on a USB drive as a portable application. Practically, if the user wants to bypass the running of the installer, by changing the name of Q-Dir_Installer.exe to Q-Dir.exe, a simple double click will be enough to start the program.
By providing enhanced files manipulation features and having a low memory footprint, Q-Dir is a suitable file manager for any Windows based computer. It does not come loaded with unessential features, being easy to install and use even for beginners in the learning of the Windows operating system.
