Cloud – An Operating System That Boots Into A Browser
After the successful debut with gOS Linux in Wal-Mart computers, Good OS LLC. unveils a new operating system: Cloud. It is capable to boot into a browser in a few seconds and by combining an original design with modern technologies, provides users a better experience with a faster personal computer.
The Cloud OS will be previewed on a GIGABYTE Touch-Screen Netbook at the Netbook World Summit. GIGABYTE Netbooks will contain both Cloud and Windows XP operating systems and will be available at the beginning of the year 2009.
Cloud OS is formed by a web browser having a compressed Linux Kernel that provides the rapid access to the Internet, integrates rich client applications and allows users to have the complete control over the computer behavior.
Through the icon dock, which can be hidden for the full view of the web pages, the user is able to select various favorite applications. The rich client applications, like Media Player are allowed to run in tabs (a feature useful for running multiple programs in the same time) based on Cloud application framework.
From the Cloud graphical interface, the user is also able to switch to the main operating system (Windows or Linux OS) or to turn the computer off.
Cloud OS minimal requirements are: a standard x86 processor, 128 MB RAM, 35 MB for storage and is compatible with any operating system. Regarding localization features, the demo version of the Cloud OS has support only for English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages.
Cloud OS could be a suitable choice for users needing a fast computer with rapid access to the Internet and basic applications, without being forced to boot a resources consuming operating system.
