Sun Microsystems JavaFX 1.0 Could Be Present In Over 6 Billion Devices Connected To Internet
Java technology is integrated in 90 percent of desktops and laptops, 85 percent of mobile devices and Blue-Ray players. A notable evolution of the Java platform is marked by the release of JavaFX 1.0, which simplifies the building and installing of Rich Internet Applications (RIA) that integrate high quality graphics, video and audio, breaking the boundary between web browsers and operating system desktop.
Regarding the impact of Java FX 1.0 across a vast global market (Java technology is already used in 800 million computers and over 6 billion devices connected to Internet), Jonathan Schwartz, chief executive officer and president of Sun Microsystems stated:”The Internet marketplace has evolved within and well beyond the traditional Web browser, fueled by an explosion of Java-powered smart phones and consumer electronics devices, from RIM’s Blackberry to Amazon’s Kindle.Sun’s newest JavaFX platform unifies Java technology across billions of such devices, with an easy to use, open source platform now enabled with high quality video and audio, targeting consumers and content owners across the world - and across the Internet.”
Through three main components (JavaFX Development Environment, the JavaFX Production Suite and the JavaFX Desktop) and video support, JavaFX 1.0 will decrease the time needed for applications development. JavaFX Video Support is based on On2 Technologies video codecs and will provide cross-platform video capabilities.
JavaFX Development Environment, besides the compiler and runtime tools provides an emulator for applications made for mobile phones. JavaFX Production Suite allows an easy exchange of the media assets between applications like Adobe Photoshop and RIA based on JavaFX 1.0.
Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6 Update 10 features are included in JavaFX Desktop. The Java plug-in will allow users to drag-and drop JavaFX 1.0 applications from the browser directly on the desktop. In this way, the applets running in browsers will bring the Internet content and obviously a new user browsing experience at the desktop level.
