Beta Release Of Windows Server 2008/Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is available as beta release for free download for MSDN and TechNet subscribers. This release was announced since October 2008 and is distributed through a Customer Preview Program for anyone interested to check the new updates by using the SP2, which minimizes the testing complexity.
The Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2, being built on the structure of Service Pack 1 will provide all the updates existing in it. The differences are represented by the implementation of fixes and changes related to various system performance issues, support for new hardware and modern standards (new security updates are also available).
The Service Pack 2 is intended to maintain and enhance the compatibility of applications built with public APIs, to support the most recent standards of Bluetooth wireless technology, to improve the graphics, audio and video processing, to introduce a new indexing mechanism for Windows Search and more.
In order to install Service Pack 2, one of the requirements is the existence of Service Pack 1 in Windows Vista (Windows Server 2008 integrates Service Pack 1). A second requirement is the update of the component responsible for the automatic management of adding and removal of the service pack. This component also maximizes the performance of service pack installation.
Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 beta can be downloaded and installed only for the systems having one of the next five types of localizations (languages): German, English, French, Japanese and Spanish.
