hMailServer: A Free and Lightweight Windows Based Email Server
Web developers or even common users of Windows operating system may need of a free solution to automatically install an email server on their computer. As compared with similar software, hMailServer is a suitable choice for the implementation of a full featured email server on a Windows desktop.
It supports the modern open email standards like IMAP4, POP3 and SMTP, being compatible with all email clients web or desktop based that supports these protocols. The configuration of the server can be performed rapidly with the help of a simple to use administration tool called hMailAdmin. It allows users to specify all necessary settings with an intuitive graphical interface.
hMailServer comes with a built in MySQL server to store data, automatically configured during the installation process. The email server security features will make possible the elimination of spammers and allows the integration of an external antivirus scanner (ClamAV antivirus can be enabled with a single mouse click). Based on the COM library available in the hMailServer distribution package, the email server features are easy to include in other applications or scripts.
hMailServer is very lightweight, the installer having only 3.7 MB in file size. In the installation directory, there is also a PHP application, PHPWebAdmin that represents a web based alternative administrative front-end for the email server. hMailServer can be used for production purposes as a reliable tool as well as a testing environment for email clients or server side scripts.
