Get Adobe AIR 1.5 For 32 And 64 Bit Linux Distributions
A release waited for long time from Adobe is here: Adobe AIR 1.5 runtime and SDK (Software Development Kit) for 32 and 64 Bit Linux systems. Practically, the binaries for the 64 Bit Linux distributions are not yet available, but 32 bit Adobe AIR will run on 64 Bit systems if the libraries corresponding to the 32 Bit AIR version are installed.
After the release of Adobe AIR 1.5 runtime and SDK for Windows and Mac OS, from now on the developers will be able to make a single RIA (Rich Internet Application) that will be compatible with all operating systems.
Flash Player for Linux (latest version is 10.0.15.3) must be installed in order to enable the availability of Adobe AIR badge install feature (an alpha version of Flash Player 10 for 64 Bit Linux distributions can also be found on Adobe official website).
The officially supported Linux distributions are: Fedora 8, Ubuntu 7.10 and openSUSE 10.3, but the Adobe AIR runtime and SDK could be successfully used on any Linux based on RPM or Debian package management systems. For the optimal implementation of Adobe AIR 1.5 on Linux, an Intel Pentium III having a 1GHz or faster processor and minimum 512MB of RAM is recommended.
The new features of Flash Player 10 are supported by Adobe AIR 1.5:
- Custom Filters and Effects
- Enhanced Drawing API
- Dynamic Sound Generation
- Vector Data Type
- Enhanced file upload and download APIs
- Real Time Media Flow Protocol (RTMFP)
- 3D Effects
- Advanced Text Support
- Color Management
- Text Engine
- Dynamic Streaming
- Speex Audio Codec
Adobe AIR 1.5 for Linux is available for free download from Adobe official website and is easy to install. Being distributed as a binary file (the users does not need to perform a compilation operation), the installation process will take place just by double-clicking the file.
