CompactCMS: Lightweight and SEO Ready Websites
CompactCMS is not another content management system for easy websites building. It provides enough flexibility for programming and design, while permits the management of website content in a simple manner (basic knowledge of XHTML and CSS principles are required).
The website administration can be handled from a single page (the administration area is AJAX based) and the content editing is performed with an efficient WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.
The user is able to customize the website navigation system directly in the template structure if certain links or their CSS style must be changed. CompactCMS offers also many other useful features like automatic sitemap creation, search engine friendly URLs, clean code with low size as compared to the text content volume, spell checking and more.
In order to use CompactCMS, an Apache web server with mod_rewrite enabled, PHP and MySQL are required. CompactCMS is free for personal use and is suitable to replace an existing content management system that has a high weight and uses only the function of static content publishing.
The latest version of CompactCMS (1.3) comes with many new features and bugs fixes:
- Support for a multi-lingual administration (English and Dutch)
- Inclusion of a simple and efficient menu manager
- Auto update file list on publish- and print change
- Auto update file list on the creation and deletion of pages
- Group (un)published items together in the file list
- Select font face & font color within the editor
- Included the “black brightness” theme as default template
- Provide friendly error notification on wrong image directory
- Added a dynamic front-end sitemap function ($structure variable)
- Better layout compatibility for the administration across configurations
- Other small minor fixes based on user feedback
