Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) With Extra Features: Super Ubuntu

Super Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 8.1 (Intrepid Ibex), offering extra features and an improved support for multimedia, Internet, Windows applications integration, graphical interfaces and more (related article: Automatic Creation of An Ubuntu 8.1 Live USB From Windows).

This Linux distribution is available for free download as ISO image from a torrent or a direct link. The Super Ubuntu image has approximately 1.14 GB in size and could be installed as standalone operating system or deployed into a virtual machine.

A simple test of this operating system on a Windows host, with as low as 512 MB RAM for the virtual machine, will show a high speed of response in comparison with the original Ubuntu 8.1, tested in the same conditions.

Super Ubuntu contains all system and applications updates available in the case of Ubuntu 8.1, plus GIMP 2.6.3, OpenOffice.org 3 and Firefox 3.0.4. There are also included new applications for a better multimedia support like VLC Media Player 0.9.4 and MPlayer, as well as new codecs. In the same time, the additional Internet related software (aMSN 0.97.2, Firefox 3.0.4, Opera 9.63, Skype 2.0.0.72 and other) will determine a more pleasant user experience during chatting or web browsing activities.

The utilities present in Super Ubuntu allow to the advanced users to improve the operating system performance (Ubuntu Tweak 0.4.4 and StartUp-Manager 1.9.11) or easily install Windows based software in Linux with Wine-Doors 0.1.2.
