More Accessible News For People With Disabilities In A 2 KB JavaScript
Accessible News Slider is a jQuery library plugin made by Brian Reindel. It allows users to scroll among an unlimited number of news articles or other type of content based on a JavaScript code having only 2 KB packed. Alongside the JavaScript code used, the CSS and XHTML directives are in agreement with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 1.0, a document which contains the basic rules that should be followed by designers and developers in order to make the content published online more accessible for people with disabilities.
This fast loading script designed primarily for news navigation, but practically it could be customized to permit the scrolling among any items published on the web like videos, images without text, individual web pages and more.
The script functionality has in mind users with color blindness, users with limited vision that did not installed a screen reader and users legally blind who navigate the Internet with the help of a browser interacting with a screen reader.
For example in case of users with color blindness, Accessible News Slider jQuery plugin does not indicate the modification of slider state with colors. As an alternative, the buttons and links corresponding to back and next functions are in a visible or hidden state. If the images display is turn off in the web browser, the script will also work based on text anchor links functionality.
Accessible News Slider is compatible with many web browsers, like Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 2+, Opera 9+ and Safari 3+. It has also the advantage of a very low file size (only 2 KB), supports themes and can be integrated in any type of website.
