Unlimited Downloads And Evaluation Times For Windows 7 Beta
The day when the download links for Windows 7 Beta was posted on the official website was proven to be a bad one for Microsoft servers. After the official announcement made by Steve Ballmer at CES (International Consumer Electronics Show), in which the limited availability for free download (only for the first 2.5 million users) of the new Windows 7 beta was made public, when the official download links were published the servers had to support a massive traffic, transformed in an overloading state.
According to Windows 7 Team Blog, due to the impossibility to provide a good download experience, the download limit was removed and the public beta of Windows 7 operating system can be downloaded by any enthusiast tester, even after the limit of 2.5 million downloads was reached: “We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit.”
As it was mentioned in a previous article (Microsoft Windows 7 Beta And Windows Live Essentials Are Ready For Free Download), the new Windows 7 Beta is freely distributed as DVD images for 32bit and 64bit platforms (direct downlod links: Windows 7 Beta 32bit and Windows 7 Beta 64 Bit).
The product keys (if necessary) can be obtained from the Microsoft Windows 7 Official Website. As an alternative you can try the product keys published by My Digital Life, designated to activate Windows 7 Beta for an unlimited number of times testing.
Updates for Windows 7 Beta will be available through Windows Update service. The stable commercial version of Windows 7 will be offered to the public in the beginning of the year 2010. The minimum system requirements necessary to install Windows 7 Beta are:
- 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
- 1 GB of system memory
- 16 GB of available disk space
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)
- DVD-R/W Drive
- Internet access (to download the Beta and get updates)
