How To Connect To Internet Through LAN (Local Area Network) In Windows 7
After a successful installation of the new Windows 7 Beta version on your computer, if you are on a Local Area Network, the system will try to automatically detect the network settings and setup a working Internet connection. If the automatic detection of the network is finalized with errors or you cannot access a certain web page from the browser, the Windows Network Diagnostics tool will try to find it.
You can access and run the Windows Network Diagnostics tool from the taskbar by right clicking the icon corresponding to the network connection or by going to Control Panel, select the Network and Sharing Center. From this section, you are also able to check network status, change network settings and specify files and folders sharing information.
If the network connection has not been established automatically, even with the diagnostics tool, you will have to setup it manually. In case of a Local Area Network, from the Network and Sharing Center section, select Change The Adapter Settings option. Depending on your adapter type, various parameters should be changed like Flow Control, Network Address and more. In most of the cases the default adapter configuration should work fine.
By right clicking on the Local Area Connection icon (after you click Change The Adapter Settings link in Network and Sharing Center section), and selecting Properties option from the context menu, you will see a list of items: select the entry corresponding to Internet Protocol Version 4 and then display its Properties from the appropriate button situated in the right of the current window.
You will notice that in the default state, the adapter should acquire an IP and a DNS server address automatically. Now, the IP and DNS addresses, as well as the default gateway must be specified manually. If you do not know the values of the required connection data, you should ask the Internet Service Provider.
The operating system will automatically verify the connection validity and if error messages are not displayed, the web browser should render successfully the desired web pages.
