Extreme Google Search: The Preferred Sites Feature
Google Search service constantly provides new options to the users in order to conduct searches with an extreme level o personalization. After the recent launch in November 2008 of SearchWiki, which allows anyone having a valid Google account to add, delete or comment the search results or modify their order by re-ranking, a new experimental feature was added to Google Web Search preferences: preferred sites.
The role of preferred sites feature is to adjust the search results so that they will contain more often relevant data from trusted websites corresponding to the user particular needs. For example, you can set any type of website that will be searched preferentially like a news blog, software repository and others.
To enable the preferred site feature in the Google Web Search preferences, you will have to be logged into your Google Account. The preferred sites can be edited at the bottom of the Google Preferences page. If the Web History is enabled, a certain number of suggested websites will be displayed based on the recorded search activity content, but the user is allowed to add any other desired website URL.
The preferred websites will display the “My preferred site” label on the search results pages when will be associated to a certain search query. The preferred sites can be removed anytime by using the corresponding removal link in the Google Web Search preferences page.
This modification added to the way in which search results will be displayed could suggest the intention of Google to add a new contribution in the evaluation of websites rankings: users trust.
