Out Of The Box Windows 7 Codecs For Free
The need for appropriate Windows 7 compatible codecs, necessary for the optimal playback of all types of multimedia files, can be satisfied with a new package of codecs (Win7Codecs). Besides the native support for playback of files having H264 format in Windows Media Player and Media Center, the new Windows 7 codecs package adds the possibility of DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of H264 files playback in case of compatible players.
The author explains the necessity of an out-of-the-box solution for Windows 7 codecs: “This is because there has never been an ‘out of the box’ working solution that the average computer user could install and just have everything work properly from the beginning. There are several decent codec package solutions out there, but none of them did everything I wanted. I was always in need of a tweak, adjustment, or even a re-installation just to get the codecs I needed/wanted and most of the time, the file still didn’t play properly.”
The comprehensive codecs package will be integrated into your Windows 7 operating system after the installer will perform the removal of other existing popular codecs. After the installation, the user will be able to play the desired movie file directly from Media Player, without the need of supplementary operations because the Media Player and respectively Media Center will perform the automatic recognition of the file.
Win7Codecs does not provide a media player and in the same time a file association with a certain player will not be executed during the installation process.
Support for streaming video is included for all web browsers and the user will be able to specify the desired codecs that will be installed and also to selectively remove any codec after installation. Win7Codecs is still in beta and is available for free download (multilanguage support is provided for 18 languages).
