How To Create A Custom Static Landing Page In WordPress 2.7
Landing pages represent important factors that influence the success of an existing marketing campaign. In short terms a landing page is a custom web page designed to attract more visitors to a website and could display certain elements that have the role to show the essence of the published content. If you own a blog powered by WordPress platform, the creation of a custom landing page consists of a few simple steps. In this short tutorial, it will be shown how to deploy a “Site Under Construction” landing page.
In case of WordPress 2.7 (or an earlier version) platform, first you will have to login as administrator and navigate to the Design section of the Dashboard, then select Theme Editor. In the right side of the page a list of the links corresponding to the files of the currently installed WordPress template will appear.
From this list, you must select the Page Template.php file and depending on your needs, add, remove or edit the existing HTML code and PHP directives, then save the file.
For example, if you need to display the message “Site Under Construction” and hide all other posts and navigation links, elaborate the content of the landing page with the favorite HTML editor, copy the HTML source, delete the entire code existing into the Page Template.php file and paste the content of your clipboard (the HTML code of the landing page).
After you have saved the Page Template.php file, navigate to the Reading section of the main Settings area. In order to enable the display of the custom landing page when a visitor types in the URL of the blog, check the radio button corresponding to the static page and select the default one.
This tutorial regarding the display of a landing page showing the “Site Under Construction Message” was tested in case of a blog with a single static page defined, but it should also work if more than one static page exists.
