How To Define Static Pages In Joomla! 1.5.x
As compared with the previous versions from 1.0.x series of the popular content management system Joomla!, the mechanism of addition of static web pages into a website built on the version 1.5.x is different. Now, the static content items are defined as uncategorized articles, while the content items as articles which are included into various categories.
In order to add a new static web page into your Joomla! 1.5.x based website, first you will have to login as administrator to the Joomla! Control Panel, then select the Add New Article button. You will notice that the default Section and Category are set to Uncategorized.
In the Title and Alias fields must be added the desired values (e.g the static page title) and set the page published state by clicking the corresponding button (the page can also be published from the Article Manager window). After the editing of the page content and hitting the save button situated in the upper right corner of the main window, you will be redirected to the Article Manager, which displays all the existing articles.
The next step is to make visible the static web page. From the Menus entry situated in the main menu of Joomla! Control Panel, select the desired navigation section in which the link to the static web page should be displayed, for example Main Menu. Then select New in order to create a new menu item.
From the new window, select the type of the new menu: in this case Article Layout situated in the Article options tree. The title of the new menu entry must be specified. To link the menu entry to the static page, just indicate the article corresponding to the static page previously defined and save the new Menu Item. If you want to display a static page on the front page of your Joomla! based website, just set its corresponding menu entry state to default (by clicking the Default button in Menu Item Manager).
