K-Meleon Browser Is Faster Than Firefox
K-Meleon is web browser based on Gecko Runtime Environment like Firefox and other browsers from the same family. The main difference between K-Meleon and Firefox is given by the fact that K-Meleon creates the Graphical User Interface with the help of Windows API, while Firefox uses Mozilla cross-platform XUL layer. As a consequence, K-Meleon will be integrated into the look and feel of the Windows desktop and will consume less resources, providing lower response times.

Gecko Runtime Environment can be easily updated, even a new K-Meleon release is not available. For example, Gecko 1.8.1.19 update patch is available through an automatic installer. K-Meleon browser could be also “made” portable in a few easy steps. It is compatible only with Microsoft Windows (Win32) operating systems. Web browsers with similar functionality are Galeon for Linux and Camino for Mac OS X.
