Silverlight For Linux: Free Download Moonlight 1.0 Stable
Linux users now have the possibility to run applications based on Silverlight with Moonlight 1.0. The stable version of Moonlight is ready for free download as Firefox plugin and it passed all Microsoft regression test suites, in the same time providing support for Microsoft Media Pack on 32bit, as well as 64bit platforms. The plugin JavaScript API allows to the JavaScript browser engine to communicate directly with Silverlight or Moonlight: “Moonlight 1.0 (and Silverlight 1.0) both come with a graphics pipeline, video and audio frameworks and a javascript bridge and neither one of them contains an actual execution environment. The execution environment is the browser’s own Javascript engine. When developers build 1.0-based plugins they script all of the functionality using the browser’s own Javascript engine.”
The Moonlight 1.0 plugin is compatible with Firefox browser, version 2.x or 3.x, installed on Unix platforms having the X11 windowing system. For the Moonlight 2.0 (Silverlight 2.0), in addition to this type of JavaScript interaction, a new model will be introduced: the ECMA CLI execution, which will increase the performance of the code execution with a speed up to 300 times faster than in case of JavaScript usage.
Moonlight 1.0 can be freely downloaded from the official website for 32bit and 64bit platforms. Moonlight 2.0 unstable is also available for testers (it requires building before installation).
