Google Calendar Is Available Offline
The free online shareable calendar service, Google Calendar, allowing users to organize their schedule in a public manner can be accessed offline, when an Internet connection is not available. Until now, this feature was provided only for businesses and schools which use Google Apps. Google Calendar is tightly integrated with Gmail, providing the possibility to easily add to the calendar the events contained in email messages, based on their automatic recognition. Like many of other Google services and applications that can be used offline (with limited functionality), Google Calendar offline availability is ensured by Gears, a browser extension which enables users to browse web based applications offline and synchronizes the edited data when the online access is possible.
By default, this feature of Google Calendar is not active. If you are already an user of Google Calendar, to enjoy the benefits of its offline accessibility, first the Offline Beta must be enabled.
According to the Gmail official blog, there are other methods to consult the Google Calendar when you are not on your PC: “There are multiple ways to see your calendar when you’re away from your desk — in addition to offline mode, we offer two-way sync for iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices.” You should also know that this offline availability feature of Google Calendar allows only to view your shedule, while the events editing is not allowed.
