Automatically Clone Your Windows On A Bootable USB Drive
Even there are enough free or paid backup solutions for any Windows powered computer, XXClone is a free application that besides making copies of the current data stored on hard drives, provides you the alternative to create a clone of the operating system, with all existing settings, files, installed applications and drivers. The cloning process is automatically and can be performed on another hard drive internal or external (USB drive) which will be also bootable, as the primary drive (the one containing the Windows operating system). In this way, you will be able to perform an advanced backup of the current system with the same custom preferences, ready to run when the computer fails. XXClone supports all types of internal disk drives(IDE, SATA, SCSI), as well as USB or FIREWARE drives in case of Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP, 32bit versions.
As compared with other similar software products, XXClone does not access the disk by using the sector-to-sector I/O technique. It “sees” the files and folders on the disk based on Windows file I/O API through logical access operations. Due to this fact, when the cloning operation is made for the first time, XXClone will automatically defragment the target volume, by placing the files into contiguous regions.
There are also many other advantages of using XXClone: rapid backup execution time, it runs as Windows application, not in DOS mode, without interrupting your current work, it is capable to clone the Windows from a drive volume with a different file system than the target volume (for example, a FAT drive can be cloned into a NTFS drive) and more.
In order to clone your current volume with Windows operating system on a USB drive, after the XXClone application was installed, select the letter corresponding to the USB drive and then click the Start button situated in the lower right corner of the main window. Before starting the cloning process, it is also recommended to initialize Master Boot Record, Boot Sector and Boot.ini from the Tools tab, “Make The Target Volume self-bootable” of XXClone GUI.
After the cloning process is finalized, you should have an USB drive which will permit the running of your current Windows operating system on other computer, to restore the desired state of the computer after a crash or to repair the self-bootability of the Windows internal hard drive volume. You could also test XXClone on Windows Vista and Windows 7 to see if it works.
