Google Ads Preferences: The Beginning Of Interest-Based Advertising
Most of the free resources published on the websites existing online today are supported by the Internet advertising industry mechanisms. Following the current trends of behavioral targeting, Google changed the way in which ads are displayed on publishers web pages: now the visitor has the possibility to see ads relevant to its interests.
The new program launched by Google is called “interest-based” advertising (still in the beta testing phase) and it works in a simple way: the displayed ads included in various categories, like news or software, are associated with user online activity through the web browser.
The type of web pages visited by the users are monitored by a cookie, which in turn will determine the display of ads relevant to users interests. For example, if you will visit a software repository, such as Downloadtube.com, later on the AdSense enabled pages, ads included in the Software category will be shown.
As a consequence, now the Google ads will no longer be geo-targeted or associated with the web page content, in case of “interest-based” advertising. In the same time, the user is allowed to opt-out from the “interest-based” advertising program anytime and the cookie will be disabled.
By using the Ads Preference Manager tool, you will be able to select the desired ads categories which will be associated with the web browser through the cookie. Most of the Google ads were labeled in order to provide users more information about how the ads are served.
The Google initiative of launching the “interest-based” advertising program will definitely be in the advantage of both Internet users and advertisers, because the ads will be published in an optimal manner for the target public.
