Mark As Unread Fix Improves Gmail’s Conversation Feature
When you deal with a high number of replies to a single email message, the majority of email clients will display them separately in the inbox. As compared with other web based email services, Gmail has an interesting feature: conversation. Based on it, in Gmail inbox, all replies to an original message are grouped in a single conversation or thread, as well as the replies to replies messages. In this way, the Gmail user will have all replies in a single place for an easier management, all related messages being placed on top of each other (the newest email message is placed first).
If you accidentally open a message that should not be read in a given moment, the “Mark as unread” option allows you to restore the email message status in order to read it later.
Until now, by applying the “Mark as unread” action to a message from a conversation, then all related messages included into the thread were automatically flagged as unread. As a consequence, the Read messages status turn into Unread, even you do not wanted to perform this action.
Fortunately, a recent update of the Gmail service fixes this “Mark as unread” issue: when you mark an email message contained into a conversation as unread, only the unread messages will be affected.
According to the Gmail Official Blog, the fixing of the “Mark as unread” issue will improve the user experience, even the “Mark as unread” action works only from a desktop based web browser (it is not available yet for mobile phone users).
