Skype, the popular service allowing free PC-to-PC calls, will be extended for iPhone and BlackBerry devices. The software has already been made available for Nokia, Windows Mobile phones and Android. Now, the iPhone and BlackBerry devices users will also enjoy the benefits of this service, Skype announcing the plans to ensure the compatibility of the necessary software to enable phone conversations over an Internet connection for the commonly used modern mobile phones.

Skype is currently used by more than 400 million people around the world. The software necessary to use the Skype service will be free to download, as well as the conversations between Skype users. The classic phone calls through Skype will be charged according to the specified fees.

One of the most interesting feature of the Skype for iPhone is the user possibility to call contacts based on the numbers existing in the address book, without being the need to create a duplicate list. Skype will also work on Apple iPod Touch, while the users are located in the range of a Wi-Fi network.

The video calls feature is still in discussion if it will be added or not in the Skype for iPhone, because the conversation quality could not have an optimal value. The users of iPhone and BlackBerry devices, will be able to use the Skype service when they are not in the front of the computer beginning with March 2009 and respectively May 2009.
