Fedora 11 Code Named Leonidas Comes In May 2009
As you might already know, Fedora Project delivers twice a year a stable distribution of the popular Linux distribution Fedora. After the last release in November 2008 of Fedora 10, now Fedora 11 Beta (code named Leonidas) is available for testing, the stable version being planned to be unveiled at the end of May 2009.
Fedora 11 will include many enhancements and new features as compared with the previous version. There will be made improvements to optimize the boot process in order to reduce the boot time in case of NVidia, ATI, and Intel video adapters.
The PackageKit, the cross distribution package manager which extends the free desktop into a level of support that compares favorably to any proprietary systems will also be improved.
Regarding the new virtualization features, Fedora 11 will provide a new management console having an enhanced mouse support on the display, will integrate SELinux for guest virtual machines, will offer access to PCI bus devices from guests and more.
Fedora 11 Beta version is intended to a larger audience than the Alpha release, which had only 40,000 downloads in a single month. It is available as a Live CD/ DVD or as an installation medium for testers. The feedback received from users will help developers to refine Fedora 11 stable version.
