Sideline Allows Twitter Monitoring Directly From Your Desktop
Moving beyond the standard customer survey process, Sideline, a new project developed by Yahoo! allows users to watch, search and monitor the Twitter public timeline in real time. It will help you to rapidly find out what are the people thoughts related to your company or brand by permitting to create, group and auto-execute advanced search queries against Twitter. Sideline core is based on YUI Library and is ported to the desktop level through Adobe AIR platform, which enables Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) to work outside the web browser.
Sideline is compatible with the commonly used operating systems (Windows, Mac OS and Linux), having the minimum amount of code specific to a certain platform.
According to the official product description, Sideline has unique features as compared with other similar products existing on the current Twitter clients market, such as automatic refreshing of defined search queries, the continuously monitoring of trend topics and the 20% more awesomeness in highlighting the reference keywords.
The Sideline code is open source, therefore developers can make further enhancements to this application (Sideline is released under the BSD license). On the Yahoo! User Interface blog, there are provided tips and more information on how to optimally combine YUI Library elements in applications deployed at the desktop level through Adobe AIR.
Sideline is available for free download from the Yahoo! website for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. An application similar in functionality with Sideline is monitter.
