Google Sky Reveals Deep Secrets Of Universe
Google Sky is a web based service which uses Google Maps to show interesting aspects regarding the details of universe, inaccessible through traditional methods. For example, the user can watch directly from a web browser window the birth of distant galaxies as seen by the Hubble Space Telescope or determine the positions of the planets on the sky.
The most attractive feature of Google Sky is the possibility to explore the universe images at different wavelenghts, such as infrared (an infrared view of the sky from the Infrared Astronomical Satellite) and the microwave (the sky from NASA’s Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe corresponding to the time period of 380,000 years after the big bang).
The images shown by the Google Sky service are identical with the ones existing in Google Earth Sky, just the projection is changed in order to display the images within Google Maps.
In an initial view, the user is able to see the visible universe through images from Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the Digitized Sky Survey and the Hubble Space Telescope. The thumbnail images found at the bottom of the browser window allows you to show galaxies, constellations, planets and more elements currently discovered in the known universe.
Google Sky permits webmasters to embed a custom view of the sky in any web page, in a similar manner as in case of Google Maps. More details about how to deal with the API code are provided in the following blog post.
