Google Profiles Have Custom URLs
A Google Profile is associated with an existing account created for Gmail, Blogger or any other Google Service. It contains various user related data and allows the sharing of various types of web content in an easy manner. For example, you can add links to different websites or blogs, Facebook profiles, photos published online and more.
In order to make the profile information available for other users, the Google Profile owner must explicitly add the data needed to be exposed on the web, when the corresponding profile URL is requested in a browser address bar.
Until now, a Google Profile could be displayed based on a URL containing a long string of numbers, hard to remember. Based on the new updates effectuated in the case of profiles editing options, users will have also the possibility to select a custom URL pointing to its Google Profile page.
If you already have a Gmail account the URL will automatically include your username as default. To change the old URL of a Google Profile, you will have to login to the Google Account and select the Edit Profile link from the current browser window.
The main advantage of this custom URL associated to your Google Profile is represented by the fact that you could have a better transparency in search engine result pages if a query containing the user name is performed.
