Windows XP Mode on Windows 7

windows-74According to a recent post published on one of the official Microsoft blogs, Windows 7 will have a feature called Windows XP Mode, which will allow an easier migration of users from Windows XP to Windows 7. Based on XP Mode, you will be able to run old applications on a machine powered by Windows 7 operating system. The XP Mode feature will be made available as free download for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise users.

Practically, Windows XP Mode represents a full copy of Windows XP SP3 deployed in a virtual environment into the latest version of Microsoft Virtual PC. The user just have to install the desired software application (XP compatible) in Windows XP mode and after a successful installation, the application can be deployed right from within the Windows 7 desktop.

Windows XP Mode feature will be released soon for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate.

In the same time, the public availability of Windows 7 Release Candidate was also announced, in response to the high amount of press articles published last month over the Internet about the release date of the official RC version.

Based on the users feedback, there were performed many refinements of behavior of Aero Peek, Touch, Windows Media Player and more.

The official Windows 7 Release Candidate will be made available for download starting with April 30th for MSDN and TechNet subscribers. For the large public, Windows 7 Release Candidate will be ready for download starting with May 5th. The main changes that will be made during the transition from Windows 7 Beta to RC version are presented in this article.
