Calculate Directory Server 9.5: LDAP Powered By Gentoo Linux
As the development team of Calculate Linux Desktop has promised, Calculate Directory Server 9.5 was released soon after the desktop based version of their Linux distribution. Calculate Directory Server 9.5 is practically an LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) server powered by a modified Gentoo Linux. It allows for the centralized storage of user profiles, applications settings and access rights from a single networked repository.
Calculate Directory Server 9.5 Linux distribution provides support for both Linux and Windows clients. For example, if the domain controller serves Calculate Directory Server, Windows and Linux users are able to use the shared resources in the same time.
Calculate Directory Server 9.5 is formed by components updated to their latest version, such as Bind 9.4.3-P2, Kernel 2.6.28.9, OpenLDAP 2.4.16, Postfix 2.5.5, ProFTPD 1.3.2 and Samba 3.0.33. Inside this Linux distribution, the user will also find the necessary tools to configure LDAP, Mail, Samba, FTP and Jabber services.
The modifications you will notice in version 9.5 of Calculate Directory Server, as compared with the previous version are presented into the next list:
-replication of postal records into the LDAP server was added.
-the tool cl-info to display the status of user accounts and groups in the LDAP server was also added.
-LZMA compression to boot disk image was introduced.
-boot manager OpenRC.
-supported file systems are mounted on: ext2, ext3, ext4, jfs, reiserfs, xfs.
-the LiveCD has auto login for the root user.
-Added support for auto-partitioning the hard disk (example: calculate -d /dev/sdX).
-New Programs: fetchmail, screen, vnstat.
Calculate Directory Server 9.5 is provided as LiveCD ISO, having approximately 500 MB the file size. As a consequence, you are able to test this Linux distribution without the need to install it on a hard drive (the RAM is used in a moderate manner).
The system boots faster than in case of Calculate Linux Desktop 9.5 edition and all applications are available only from the command line (you will not have a graphical user interface). Calculate Directory Server 9.5 is very responsive and can be easily customized according to your needs.
