Scribd Store: Ebooks For More Than 50 Million Readers
Initially launched as a free social publishing website, where you are allowed to publish, discover and discuss original writings and documents, now, Scribd has also launched an online store with content corresponding to 90 different languages, for more than 50 million readers every month. Scribd has implemented an online publishing technology called iPaper, making you capable to almost instantly display online most of the common file formats in an elegant manner.
In this way, the user can upload and share its original work included into a PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or other type of document. The content of the published document is indexed and as a consequence, it is easy to be found via search engines.
Scribd has already announced its partnership with major publishers, like Random House, Simon & Schuster, Workman Publishing Co., Berrett-Koehler or Thomas Nelson. “These partnerships help cement Scribd’s position as the online destination for readers while giving publishers a completely fresh platform to reach a new audience of millions”, stated Trip Adler, CEO and co-founder of Scribd.
The Scribd store will obtain 20% of a selling revenue, while 80% will go to the publisher. The pricing mechanism is very flexible for publishers. For example, the publisher is allowed to set a certain price on individual chapters or exact selection of pages.
