AMD has just announced the availability of a factory overclocked graphics processor, included into the recently launched ATI Radeon™ HD 4890 graphics card. The most important feature of the new graphics processor is represented by the fact that it uses standard air-cooling methods. In the same time, this overclocked AMD graphics processor is the first one in the world which breaks the frequency barrier of 1 GHz, providing new levels of general purpose GPU-accelerated performance in ATI Stream applications like in case of video transcoding and post processing.

In the press release announcement, there are described the performances and the main technical details of the 1 GHz processor built into the ATI Radeon™ HD 4890 graphics card: “The new ATI Radeon™ HD 4890 utilizes advanced GDDR5 memory and a 1 GHz clock speed to deliver 1.6 TeraFLOPs of compute power, 50 percent more than that of the competition’s best single-GPU solution.
