Automatically Import External Email Messages And Contacts In Gmail
As compared with other free similar services, Gmail offers anyone over 7 GB space to store information (email messages, contacts or files), as well as other useful tools to manage an existing account. Due to this fact, it is a good idea to migrate from an existing free email service provider to Gmail, because all messages can be forwarded to the new account. The main problem is how to deal with old email messages and contacts list in order to transfer them to a new or an existing Gmail account. On the Gmail Official blog there is provided an automatic alternative to solve this issue when you migrate from other email service provider to Gmail.
Chad Parry, Gmail Engineer explains how easy is to move old messages and contacts list to a Gmail account, based on a newly implemented feature into the email service: “Gmail now migrates email and contacts from other email providers, including Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, and many more. It’s much easier to make the transition now that you can bring along all your old email and contacts. You can even have your messages forwarded from your old account for 30 days, giving you time to take Gmail for a test drive while you make up your mind.”
As a consequence, the new Gmail feature added into the Settings area under the Accounts and Import tab will allow you to import email messages and contacts from major providers like Yahoo! or other webmail or POP3 accounts.
The Gmail’s Mail Fetcher, which is capable to download messages from up to five different accounts can still be used, as well as the option to import contacts lists in Gmail as CSV files. The new Gmail feature will be rolled out gradually for existing accounts, while the newly created Gmail accounts have this feature enabled by default.
