Elive 1.9.27-Compiz Development Version: Linux In Three Dimensions

elive-logo Elive is a Debian GNU based Linux distribution capable to transform an old computer having just a 100 MHz processor and 64 MB RAM into a powerful work-station with an eye-candy desktop user interface. The latest Compiz Development Version, Elive 1.9.27 includes Enlightenment window manager, a fast, light and very flexible environment which contains all the necessary software resources for your daily tasks.

This Linux distribution replaces the Debian packages with customized versions because more than 500 existing packages have been added or modified.

Elive Linux distribution has a full suite of applications: a complete Office suite, games and multimedia related tools. For example, you are allowed to easily create DVD movies with the desired menus and theme music with a real-time non-linear video editor. In the same time, you can also make 3D animations, optimize audio and image files for better quality and more.

The operating system configuration options, like add/remove packages, configure your hardware or customize the look and feel of Elive, are organized in a single place – Elpanel. This control panel is designed to be used even by Linux beginners (all the settings changes and system configuration related operations can be performed in a visual manner).

Elive 1.9.27 represents a major update for the Compiz series of Elive, having the following new features or changes:

- Module: Now instead of configuring compiz from ecsm you can do it from a module
- Cube: The cube is disabled by default now due to its instability compared with the wall mode
- Switcher: Default switcher of E17 is a lot more powerful, configurable, and stable, so it is used as default now (it is still accessed by pressing the ‘win’ key plus the Tab key)

According to the official publisher description “Elive aims to be a comfortable easy to use Linux system with many customization possibilities. It provides maximum power and speed for the experienced user.” It will give you the best possible user experience, even in case of old computer hardware (the minimum recommended hardware is 300 Mhz and 128 Mb of RAM).

In order to test Elive, you do not have to install anything on your own computer, because this Linux distribution, like many others can be deployed directly from the LiveCD. Elive 1.9.27-Compiz Development Version LiveCD ISO is available for free download from the official website.
