Gmail Messages Can Be Automatically Translated
On the Official Gmail Blog was just announced the inclusion of a new feature into the Labs section: Message Translation. If this feature will be enabled via Gmail Settings panel, then the user is allowed to automatically translate any email message or Google Talk conversation in one of 41 languages available, corresponding to a total number of 1640 language pairs. The automatic translation process is performed with the help of Google Translate service, one of the first web based translation tools offered for free, which uses statistical machine translation technology. After the enabling of Message Translation feature in the Labs tab, situated in the Settings area, you must go to the General Settings options and set the default translation language.
When an email message has the text content written in a language different than the default one, into the header located at the top of the message the user will notice the existence of a link labeled “Translate message to language”, where language will be replaced with the name of the default language chosen earlier in the Language Settings area.
The default translation language can be easily changed anytime by clicking the link situated next to “Translate message to …” link in the same message header or by going directly in the Language Settings area.
The addition of the automatic message translation feature to Gmail will save users a lot of time by eliminating the need to manually copying and pasting the desired text content from a message or a GTalk conversation into the text area provided on Google Translate service web page.
