Get Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 RC From Microsoft Connect
Microsoft has just announced the availability of Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 RC (WSUS 3.0 SP2 RC) for the general public on Microsoft Connect. Windows Server Update Services allows corporate networks administrators to distribute Microsoft updates from a local server, therefore clients computers does not have to be connected to the Microsoft Update Website anymore. In this way, hot fixes, service packs, device drivers or other updates can be automatically downloaded on each client computer faster, with a minimum bandwidth consumption.
Now, Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 RC has support for Windows 7 client, as well as Windows Server 2008 R2. In this version of WSUS were performed many improvements of the following features: auto-approval rules, handling of language selection, upgrade mechanism and reports.
Cecilia Cole, WSUS Program Manager explains the details of these features: “Auto-approval rules now include the ability to specify the approval deadline date and time for all computers or specific computer groups. Improved handling of language selection for downstream servers includes a new warning dialog that appears when you decide to download updates only for specified languages. WSUS 3.0 SP2 can be installed as an in-place upgrade from earlier versions of WSUS and will preserve all of your settings and approvals. The user interface is compatible between WSUS 3.0 SP1 and SP2 on the client and the server.”
In the same time, Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 RC contains various software updates, such as the stability and reliability fixes for the WSUS server, a new release of Windows Update Agent and more.
To be able to download the WSUS 3.0 SP2 RC builds and documentation, you will have to register for gaining access to Microsoft Connect. Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 RC program will end in August 2009.
