Bing Is Here: The New Search Engine From Microsoft

binglogo_lg1 Microsoft has just announced its new search engine called Bing. The main concept of Bing search engine refers to the possibility of getting better decisions as a consequence of search actions, reflected into an enhanced user experience. In other words, Bing is defined as a decision engine because it organizes search results in such manner that the user is able to quickly locate the content leading to the more-informed decisions.

Given the high rate of Internet growing in 2009 (four and a half websites are created every second), the user expectations and needs regarding the search results delivered by the major search engines existing today could not be fullfilled due to the fact that the searching mechanism do not always give the optimal or the needed answer.

As compared with the existing search engines, Bing is different, from the decision engine point of view: ”We took a new approach to go beyond search to build what we call a decision engine. With a powerful set of intuitive tools on top of a world class search service, Bing will help you make smarter, faster decisions. We included features that deliver the best results, presented in a more organized way to simplify key tasks and help you make important decisions faster.“

The “Decision Engine” is initially focused on four key user tasks and related areas: “Bing is specifically designed to build on the benefits of today’s search engines but begins to move beyond this experience with a new approach to user experience and intuitive tools to help customers make better decisions, focusing initially on four key vertical areas: making a purchase decision, planning a trip, researching a health condition or finding a local business.”

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO stated: “Bing is an important first step forward in our long-term effort to deliver innovations in search that enable people to find information quickly and use the information they’ve found to accomplish tasks and make smart decisions.“ Bing search engine will be deployed worldwide worldwide on Wed., June 3, 2009.
