Google Wave Enhances Online Communication And Collaboration
Google Wave is introduced as a new concept for communication and collaboration over the Internet, allowing people to increase their work productivity. Google Wave mixes in a single service the principles of email, chat and online document editing and sharing. The associated web application made with HTML 5 and built on top of built on Google Web Toolkit, is provided as a developer preview and represents the tool necessary to access and edit “waves”.
According to the Google Official Blog, the wave is defined in the following manner: “equal parts conversation and document, where people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more”.
Lars Rasmussen, Software Engineering Manager explains the basic usage of Google waves: “In Google Wave you create a wave and add people to it. Everyone on your wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets, and even feeds from other sources on the web. They can insert a reply or edit the wave directly. It’s concurrent rich-text editing, where you see on your screen nearly instantly what your fellow collaborators are typing in your wave.”
Google Wave web application has a rich text editor and various functions such as drag-and-drop options. On the other hand, Google Wave is a platform which provides open APIs that permits the inclusion of waves in other web services. Google Wave protocol will be used for storing and sharing waves.
