The result of the close collaboration between Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Surface developers teams is represented by the integration of multi-touch into Windows 7. The applications having multi-touch functionality intended to run on Windows 7 are included into Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7. The set is formed by three casual games and three Microsoft Surface applications and all of them are multi-touch optimized.

In a recent article, Windows Touch Team explains the signification and benefits of “touch”, introduced in Windows 7:” Windows 7 we have enriched the Windows experience with touch, making touch a first-class way to interact with your PC alongside the mouse and keyboard. We focused on common activities and refined them thoughtfully with touch in mind. You will have the freedom of direct interaction, like being able to reach out and slowly scroll a web page then flick quickly to move through it. With new touch optimized applications from creative software developers you will be able to immerse yourself as you explore you photos, browse the globe, or go after bad guys in your favorite games.”

Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 contains the following applications:

-Microsoft Surface Globe allows you to get local information from a 3D version of the world powered by Virtual Earth 3D engine.
-Microsoft Surface Collage is a tool to manage digital photos and create desktop backgrounds.
-Microsoft Surface Lagoon represents an interactive screensaver through multi-touch.
-Microsoft Blackboard, Microsoft Rebound and Microsoft Garden Pond are very addictive games from Microsoft.

Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 can be used only on a PC having support for multi-touch. “Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 will be available to PC makers (OEMs) who will have the option to pre-install some, none, or all of the applications available in the Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 on PCs designed for Windows Touch (PCs that meet the logo requirements for Windows Touch)”, added Brandon LeBlanc into the article posted on Windows 7 Team Blog.
