In an announcement published on Windows 7 Team blog, Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager stated that the Windows 7 will be available in stores starting with October 22nd 2009, just in time for the holidays.

The Windows 7, as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM code is expected to be delivered for manufacturers in July 2009: “Release To Manufacturing (RTM) is an important milestone on the path to GA. We anticipate that we’ll be able to make the RTM code for Windows 7 available to our partners sometime in the 2nd half of July. We also expect to be able to make RTM code for Windows Server 2008 R2 available to our partners in this time frame as well”, added Brandon LeBlanc.

In the same time, you do not have to wait the official release of Windows 7 in order to buy a new computer. Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program will allow retailers and OEMs to offer customers a convenient opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7.

For example, if an user buys a computer equipped with Windows Vista, the upgrade to Windows 7 is provided for free.

For those of you that did not have tested the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC), it is still available for free download at least through July 2009. With Windows 7 RC, you can deploy a free operating system that will expire on June 1, 2010.
